Congratulations, Salida, on a fabulous 2019 Lunar New Year Celebration and Asia Fest! On February 8, 2019, we celebrated the 3rd annual Lunar New Year Parade and Asia Fest: The Year of the Pig! Throughout January and February, over 250 students from area schools, preschool to 8th grade, learned about the Asian tradition through stories and art, and created dragons and decorations, culminating in a community parade and celebration. Local artists, families, and friends also created dragons and costumes for the parade in three free workshops held at the Box of Bubbles. After the parade, we celebrated Asia Fest at the SteamPlant Ballroom with dragons, the Salida Circus, Salida Middle School Groove Battalion, Filipino Folk Dance, and arts and crafts. There was Free admission, and We Chef Kitchen provided Asian-fusion food for purchase. We had a wonderful celebration! Thank you for taking part! Thank you to Sponsors Support Our Schools Salida, High Country Bank, Lucy Pendon, Kaleidoscope Toys, Stotler & Young, and The Mountain Mail for helping to make this cultural event possible in our community!
